Andy Harris: Do You Know His Name Yet?

Electoral Application David Mayhews 1974 book titled Congress: The Electoral Connection , argued that the primary goal of members of Congress is to seek reelection. Members of Congress can have other goals they want to achieve, but reelection is key when it comes to the security of their career. Mayhew describes three important activities Congress members use to capture the voters attention. These activities are clear in Andy Harris’s campaign. Advertising Advertising is a way for politicians to get their name out in the community and to cultivate their image. As a virtually unknown Congressman (on a bigger scale), Harris’s biggest asset is his use of social media to get his name out in the open. Andy Harris: No Time for Losers

Last Election: In the latest midterm election, Andy Harris continued his winning streak, and has been elected for his 5th consecutive term. Harris is one of the only Republican that runs for his district, and easily took down his opponent, Democract Jesse Colvin. According to Ballotpedia , Harris won 60% of the votes during the general election. Primary Election: As the incumbent, Harris had an easy victory over fellow Republicans Martin Elborn, and Lamont Taylor. Harris came away with almost 86 % of the vote, which came to a total of 48,944 votes. Elborn received 9.8% of the votes, while Taylor recieved 4.4% of the votes. The results of these primary are standard for Harris, who has been beating his last few opponents with high margins between them. Current Predictions: Harris is sure to continue his run for office, during the next 2021 election. As the incumbent in a highly conservative district, Harris will most likely come out with another victory. H

It has a population of 722,628, and is currently the fourth largest district in Maryland.
