Andy Harris: No Time for Losers


Last Election:

In the latest midterm election, Andy Harris continued his winning streak, and has been elected for his 5th consecutive term.
Harris is one of the only Republican that runs for his district, and easily took down his opponent,
Democract Jesse Colvin. According to Ballotpedia, Harris won 60% of the votes during the general election.

Primary Election:
As the incumbent, Harris had an easy victory over fellow Republicans Martin Elborn, and Lamont Taylor.
Harris came away with almost 86 % of the vote, which came to a total of 48,944 votes. Elborn received 9.8% of the votes, while Taylor recieved 4.4% of the votes.
The results of these primary are standard for Harris, who has been beating his last few opponents with high margins between them.

Current Predictions:
Harris is sure to continue his run for office, during the next 2021 election.
As the incumbent in a highly conservative district, Harris will most likely come out with another victory.
Harris’s campaigns have consistently pulled in at least 60% of the vote, ensuring he can stay in office.

2016 Vote
During Harris’s 2016 campaign, he pretty much destroyed his Republican counterparts during the primary election, coming away with 79% of the vote.
During the general election, Harris defeated Democrat Joe Werner, and Libertarian Matt Beers. During this main election, Harris was able to come away with 67% of the vote here,
and the District was labeled as safely Republican, in Harris’s favor. During the Presidential election of 2016, Donald Trump had a fairly easy against Hillary Clinton in this district.
Trump came away with 60% of the vote, while Clinton took 35%. Again, this district almost always votes Republican. However, it is the only District in Maryland
that has a Republican representative.

Campaign Financial Status
During Harris’s 2017-2018 campaign, he managed to raise $1,666,394.
Most of the money raised came from Large Individual Contributors (55.52%) and PAC Contributors (33.44%).
Harris raised about 500,000 less than the average House campaigns, which totaled around 2.2 million during the 2017-2018 year.
Since Harris is also a practicing physician, industries and PACs that donated to him were mostly involved in the health care sector.

Major Issues
Harris has utilized his career in the medical field to tackle some of the issues taking place throughout the country.
He has focused a lot of his time on Healthcare , and supports legislation that makes it more accessible and affordable for the average American.
As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Harris has also helped to more than quadruple their budget for research funds for Alzheimers.
He has also been involved in legislation for more research on medical marijuana.

Harris has also focused on the opioid crisis within the US, and its effect on different crimes.
Harris supports the First Step Act that focuses on prison reform, and includes drug treatment in that process.
He has also voted to ensure increased funds to combat the opioid crisis.

Harris’s work in the job sector has also led to a decrease in unemployment in his district.
